In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), an ex-wife has taken legal action against her former husband for using her two cars to commit traffic violations amounting to AED 80,830. The woman claimed that the violations occurred while they were still married and that her ex-husband had not paid the fines after their separation.
To support her claim, the woman provided the court with registration licenses of the vehicles and copies of the traffic fines. The Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court found in favor of the woman, and ordered the transfer of the fines to the ex-husband’s traffic file. The court also directed the man to cover his ex-wife’s legal expenses.
The case was uncovered after a police investigation revealed that the man had committed multiple traffic violations while using his ex-wife’s vehicles. This ruling serves as a reminder to motorists that they are responsible for any fines incurred while using a vehicle, even if they do not own it.
