Reports suggest that a fifth-grade student studying in one of Karachi’s ‘Smart Schools’ is currently fighting for his life on a ventilator, as a result of what appears to be a case of gross negligence. The incident occurred on Friday, March 24th, when a fun gala was held at the school. While investigations are ongoing to ascertain what led to this unfortunate incident, the student remains in the ICU.
According to some student eyewitness accounts, various stalls were set up by the students at the gala, including one selling soda drinks in glass bottles. It was at this stall that the incident occurred, where an older student allegedly shook the bottle and used a knife to open it when the key didn’t work. This caused the bottle to burst, and a piece of broken glass lodged into the neck of the younger student.
As per the latest reports, the child is still in the ICU on life support, battling for his life. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are investigating the cause of the incident. Parents are worried and questioning why glass soda bottles were allowed on the school campus in the first place, and why a knife was casually laying around the stall. They are also concerned about why the kids were left unsupervised around a stall that had gas-filled soda bottles and a knife.
While investigations continue into these questions, the focus is on the child’s recovery. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper supervision and safety measures at school events to prevent accidents and unfortunate incidents like this.
