Honor has recently introduced its “dual flagship” strategy, which involves two product lines that share the name “Magic”. One product line is the traditional number series, while the other includes the Magic V foldables. In this article, we’ll be focusing on the new Magic 5 and Magic 5 Pro models, as there is no Ultimate variant available at the moment.
The Honor Magic 5 Pro boasts a 6.81-inch display that is curved on all four sides. It features an LTPO panel that can refresh at a highly variable 120Hz, and its resolution remains the same as last year’s model at 1,312 x 2,848 pixels. This results in a pixel density of 461 PPI, and it’s a 12-bit panel that supports HDR10+ content.
Honor has made significant upgrades to the camera system on the Magic 5 Pro, including a customized 1/1.12″ sensor with a bright f/1.6 aperture, which greatly improves its light-gathering ability. The main camera now has OIS, which was missing from the Magic 4 Pro. The ultra-wide-angle camera has a brighter f/2.0 aperture, and the periscope module features a 50MP Sony IMX858 sensor, with a 3.5x optical magnification and a brighter f/3.0 lens. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 memory. It runs on MagicUI 7.1 based on Android 13, and there are a lot of custom hardware features included.
The Pro model features a 5,100 mAh battery with 66W wired SuperCharge and 50W wireless SuperCharge, and the charger is included in the box. The device will be available in Glacier Blue, Meadow Green, Coral Purple, Orange, and Black color options in Europe, with a starting price of €1,200.
The regular Magic 5 model features a slightly smaller 6.73″ display with a maximum HDR brightness of 1,600 nits, and the camera system includes a 54MP main sensor, 50MP ultra-wide, and 32MP telephoto lenses. It is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, but with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The device is thinner than the Pro model and has the same 5,100 mAh battery capacity, supporting 66W wired SuperCharge but no wireless charging. The Magic 5 will only be available in Blue and Black colors, with a price of €900.
